An awareness camp on prevention of violence against women and promotion of gender equality was organised on 26 August 2023 at Bhankhroad village in Muzaffarabad block. The camp was inaugurated and chaired by gram pradhan Sushil Kumar.
Project coordinator Babita Verma informed the participants that the programme was being implemented in 125 villages of Sarsawa, Sadholi Qadim and Muzaffarabad blocks of Saharanpur district. Awareness on VAW and gender equality will be created among the people through camps under the programme on these issues.
The organisation’s workers gave an overview of the work by the organisation to the people present. They said that women must become aware of their rights to realise them. They would have to come forward in the fields of education and business. Information about Domestic Violence Act, 2005, was given. The participants were told if any family member committed violence on a woman, the latter may take action against such a member.
Information on expansion of legal aid programme was given. Apart from organising nari adalats on 10th of every month at the organisation’s headquarters, they are being started in villages — one nari adalat in one village in a month — to solve the cases related to VAW.
A street play from We Can Campaign on violence against women and gender equality was staged.
