Art Competition on Women Equality and Stopping VAW at GIC Panchkuan

art competition on women equalityOn September 16, 2016, an art competition was organised on the issue of equality of women and stopping violence against women. 30 girl students from high school and intermediate took part in it. In it they made drawings on chart paper depicting various type violence and discrimination faced by women. Kajal from class 12 stood first, Prachi from class 12 stood second and Bhavna from class 12 stood third in it.

On this occasion the Principal of the college Ravindra Kumar said that such competitions were quite educational for today’s youth. He said that discrimination with women started from her home and family. We must give equal education and employment opportunities to girls and boys.

Programme coordinator P Ram informed about the objectives and programmes of Disha Social Organisation and also while laying out the objectives of the programme said that such programmes were organised to make the youth aware on the above mentioned issue so that violence against women could be curtailed. Tasneem informed about the role played by women in the society and said that women do everything from looking after the home to farming yet they are not known as farmers. For empowerment of women it was important women are given their social and financial rights. Shaheen Praveen said in order to end violence against women, women must be empowered with education and employment. She also informed about domestic violence act enacted by the government which forbid anyone from engaging in violence against women at home.

From the college Sameer Devi, Rajni Dheeman, Rishipal Singh and Anuj Kumar also expressed their views. The winner of the competition were awarded with first, second and third prizes and consolation prizes were also given to rest of the participants.
