Workshop with SMC on Violence against Women

A one day workshop with School Management Committees members on women equality, violence and education issues was organised at Disha Training Centre August 17, 2017. In all SMC members 33 participants participated.

The workshop began with the sharing of salient features of Right to Education Act, 2009, implemented all over the country since April 1, 2010. Thereafter the discourse shifted to detailing out roles and responsibilities of SMCs.

Information about gender that gender issues was shared with SMC members. It was underlined that gender discrimination made women less competent; did not allow them to go out of house and did not permit them to participate in any socio-political decisions.

Under Domestic Violence Act, 2005, several provisions were introduced to provide relief to victims and protect them from violence, restrictions on workplace, school or any other place, restrictions on communicating anyone through e-mail, phone, orally or in written and neglect. Under the Act, various have been assigned certain responsibilities.
