Women Farmers’ Padyatra at Patni Village
A women farmers’ padyatra was organised at Patni village in Sarsawan development block under Aaroh campaign on December 5, 2019, to press for rights of women farmers. Hundreds of women farmers and men participated in this event.
Prior to taking out the padyatra, a workshop was organised for the rights of women farmers. The chief guest of the workshop was Joint Director Agriculture Department DS Rajput. Addressing the women farmers he said they could not get any identity of their own despite being 50 per cent of the population.
Mr Rajput said women were discriminated in the society at various levels. Despite all out efforts of the government and women organisations, women have very low participation in farming related decisions. He exhorted women farmers to be aware of their rights and laid emphasis on enhancing the role of friends of women farmers. After the address he flagged off the padyatra.
Giving information about Aaroh campaign, Ms Tasneem said this campaign was being run by Disha in 20 villages. The campaign was underway for identity and rights of women farmers for the last 11 years. This was second padyatra of three villages. It would start from Patni village and end at Bakarka and Sikri Kala villages. A street play on Aaroh women farmers was also organised on this occasion.
