Disha Joins Hands in Uttarakhand Disaster Relief

disha-joins-hands-in-uttarakhand-calamity-reliefDisha has joined hands with the Government, voluntary organisations, charities, corporate houses, etc., to provide immediate relief to people in Uttarakhand affected with unprecedented rain and flood and accompanying disaster in mid-June.

On the suggestions of the District Magistrate of Uttarkashi a four member team of Disha led by its director reached Uttarkashi by road yesterday. After overnight stay it is trying to reach the suggested village Didsari near Maneri Bhali in Bhatwari block of Uttarkashi district by helicopter as the roads are either breached, blocked or washed away.

Maneri Bhali is the site of a hydro-electric plant.

After making an assessment of the requirement, Disha will arrange relief material and send the same to Didsari village.

In view of this Disha appeals everyone concerned over the plight of disaster affected people to contribute generously so the relief material may be sent to the village. Exact requirement will be put on the web site shortly.

Disha also has plans to engage itself in long term rehabilitation of a few villages in Uttarakhand, provided it can raise funds for that.

On the return of the team we will update with the ground reality along with photographs.

Disha has a long experience in providing relief and rehabilitation. It worked in seven villages after the 1991 earthquake in Uttarkashi and 1999 earthquake in Tehri Garhwal. It has also worked with the communities before and after these earthquakes.
