Flood Relief Work in Saharanpur District

In Dandaulikhera village, eight families out of almost 100 families were affected so hard that they lost almost everything - cattle, crops, utensils, clothes, etc. Since the gram pradhan was non-cooperative and non-committal, morhca team approached the Lekhpal (local revenue official) and handed over the list of these eight victim families. After too many efforts two families were given compensation of Rs 1,900 each.

On the other hand when news of villagers’ starvation in Chauri Mandi reached the morhca, a visit was made. These people too had lost everything - houses, crops, cattle, fodder, etc. Duringa meeting the victims rued inadequate relief from the government and that too even after the visit of district and block level officials. At the end of the meeting a team of five Disha functionaries was formed to assist the affected villagers access relief from the Government.

Time and again this has raised the organisation’s concern that it should have some funds to immediately rush relief to victims of natural calamities.
