Workshop on Women Equality, Women Education and Violence against Women with School Management Committee Members

workshop on women equality women education and violence against womenThe above titled workshop was held on May 3, 2015, at Bharatiya Shiksha Uchchtar Madhyamik Vidyalaya, Behat. The workshop began with introduction to the objectives of the workshop that included imparting knowledge about rights and duties of office-bearers of School Management Committees formed under right to education law.

Detailed information about the provisions of right to education was provided to the participants. They were also given information about provisions of constitution of the committees and their work as per Government Order issued on June 28, 2011.

Having done this, the participants were taken to the next item on the agenda: Gender and women equality, the issues that are close to Disha. Beginning from gender and women equality, the participants were moved to patriarchy.

Lastly, the participants were informed of forms of violence against women. The participants were told that there were three sources of violence against women – family, community and government. The vicious cycle of violence commenced from pregnancy and continued till old age through infancy, childhood, youth and reproductive age.

The workshop ended with introduction of the participants with Domestic Violence Act, 2005. This law protected women from any kind of violence inside homes and families. The participants were given information about reliefs available under the act, duties of officials and employees.
