Workshop on Violence against Women and Gender Equality
Two-day workshop on the above topic was organised for morcha office-bearers on August 24 and 25, 2015. The objective of the workshop was to create awareness among morcha leaders on violence against women, gender equality and domestic violence law.
In the opening note Disha Director KN Tiwari told the participants how women were discriminated upon from birth till death. After his opening remarks some documentary films on violence against women and gender equality and a feature film Gulab Gang were screened.
Screening of films was followed by discussion on women related issues. Morcha committee leaders from all over the operational area shared their perception on the issue. The common understanding was that women were made to do the works in which there was no income, they were deliberately kept away from property, they were denied their rights, etc. It transpired that unity was strength and the women would have to fight for their rights unitedly.
On the second day, violence against women and its form were taken up. The women were told that violence against women was continuously on the rise both in the society and the family. This violence will continue to rise till the time women took united action against it.
