workshop on women equalityThe above workshop was held on October 27, 2015, at Disha Training Centre, with the members of School Management Committee members. The workshop began with a motivational song and introduction of the participants. Disha Director KN Tiwari briefed the participants about objectives of the workshop. He said the workshop aimed at informing the participants about violence against women and women equality so difference between son and daughter could be bridged upon.

After the introductory remarks, the participants were once again given information about the rights and duties of School Management Committees. The idea was to link the issue of gender and women equality with education. The participants were given detailed information about gender, discrimination about women and women equality.

Violence against women had many forms and connotations. It included mental, physical, sexual, financial, social, political and emotional violence. The sources were familial, community and family. The vicious cycle started from pregnancy till old age. Detailed information was given about Domestic Violence Act 2005. This law provided protection to women from any kind of violence.

One of the ways to promote women equality was to get an identity of farmer to rural women and ensuring that the land was in her co-ownership. To press for this Disha had launched a campaign called Aaroh campaign in 14 districts of western Uttar Pradesh. The bill was being drafted so that it could be taken up in Vidhan Sabha.

The participants shared their experiences in open session. Their experiences were of mixed kind. While the lone president said that all was well with committee the members were of the opposite view.

In the end, Disha Director KN Tiwari gave tips to the members for efficient working. With this the training ended.
