A congregation of labourers and community for unity and empowerment was organised under One Billion Rising Campaign at the Training Centre lawns on 14 February 2023. Nearly 200 people participated.

Chief guest of programme Satyendra Rai, In-charge of Chilkana police station, extended wishes to the present women and men on OBR Campaign. He said that women and men had equal rights of education and employment. Everyone will have to come forward to end discrimination and violence against women. In case of any issue, he appealed women to approach Chilkana police station without hesitation.

The programme was chaired by Akbar Qureshi, chairman of Sultanpur-Chilkana Nagar Panchayat. He greeted the people on OBR and praised works of Disha, which was continuously making efforts for the development of women and poor. He exhorted the participants to get organised and become aware of their rights.

Disha Director KN Tiwari said that the organisation was raising voice on the issues of women. Every year some issue of the community was raised. “This year’s issue is to strengthen the community and poor labourer,” he said.

Giving information about the campaign, Programme Coordinator Tasneem Bano said that OBR was a world level campaign started in 2013 by the US actress Eve Ensler aimed at ending violence and discrimination against women. This campaign has spread to 207 countries of the world and every year a new theme is highlighted.

The “billion” refers to the United Nations statistic that one in three women will be raped or beaten in her lifetime, or about one billion of total population of women on the earth.
