A street play on violence against women and intoxication was staged at JJ Inter College, Sultanpur, on 29 November 2022 as a part of 16-day activism against gender-based violence. Each year the campaign begins on 25 November on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and ends on 10 December.
Arun Kumar, Roshan, Riyasat, Nilam, Razia, Mukesh, Deepak, Sonia, Ravi, Rekha, Ranjish, Gita, Tansneem and P Ram presented the play. Teachers and hundreds of students watched play.
Disha organises many activities during the campaign in association with networks like Uttar Pradesh Coalition to Empower Girls and Hamsafar. The speakers said that it was necessary for each person in the society to become aware to end violence against women. Towards this end, it was necessary that women became educated. It was underlined that both girls and boys must get opportunities to move ahead in the society. Girls should get opportunities of education and employment on par with boys.
Addressing the present students, the college principal Satyavir said that violence was still being perpetrated on women and we all must play our roles in preventing this. He praised Disha organisation for empowering women. The organisation is actively working on the issues of women for the last 40 years and helps women victims of violence through the women cell.
