District level workshop for media persons on the topic Violence against Women and Gender Equality organised on 22 February 2023. Nearly 50 media persons from print and electronic media participated. The workshop was inaugurated by former minister Sanjay Garg who was chief guest of the programme.

Addressing the media, Garg said we could not progress without equal participation of women. He said despite several efforts data about women were not as satisfactory as those of men. The main reason behind this is our patriarchal thinking. He said there was a need to give rights to women in property also.

Resource person Alka Arya, senior journalist from New Delhi, presented the state of women before the participants. She said the women would have to come forward and take initiative for their rights. She said violence against women was particularly present in the higher sections of the society. She talked about training of women and girls for self-defence and emphasised that instances of violence against women rose during corona period.

Another resource person Geeta Gairola, senior social worker from Dehradun, said women were not less than men in any field if they get a chance. She emphasised role of media on women issues should be strengthened. She said we would have to begin form home and family for women equality.

Senior journalist from Saharanpur Shahid Zuberi said there should be no violence on women. He said media had an important role to play in stopping violence against women.

Others those who spoke on the occasion included Disha Director KN Tiwari and senior social workers Ashok Chaudhary, Jahnavi Tiwari and Rehana Adib.
