On 8 March 2026, Disha Social Organisation celebrated International Women’s Day with great enthusiasm. Around 500 women participated in the event, presenting slogans, songs and cultural performances that highlighted women’s rights and empowerment.
The presidium included community leaders such as Kamla Devi, Shiksha, Yashoda, Satto, Pooja, Lalita, Monika, Meera, Rajkali, Poonam, Suresho, Usha, and Prameshna.
Founder Director KN Tiwari extended greetings to all women, recalling the origins of International Women’s Day in 1908, when 15,000 working women in New York marched for fair wages and working hours. He traced the global recognition of the day to 1911 and its first celebration in India in Pune in 1975.
Senior Coordinator Jahnavi Tiwari urged women to step forward for their rights, stressing the importance of education and leadership roles. Programme Coordinator Tasneem encouraged women to take initiative and remembered the struggles of Clara Zetkin, Fatima, and Savitribai Phule. Coordinator Shaheen Parveen emphasised education, particularly for Muslim women, as a pathway to progress.
Programme Coordinator P. Ram highlighted Clara Zetkin’s role in initiating International Women’s Day and shared this year’s theme, “Give to Gain”, calling for unity and collective action.
Rural women including Poonam, Geeta, Samiksha, Sushila, Roshni, Mamta, Renu, Neha, Rita, Sarita, Suman, Usha, and Meenakshi also shared their thoughts, reinforcing the spirit of solidarity. The programme was smoothly conducted by Coordinator Tasneem.
This vibrant celebration reflected the organisation’s ongoing commitment to women’s empowerment, education, and equality, while honouring the historical struggles that paved the way for today’s progress.
